MCD Poll Results Updates : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal won 134 seats in the MCD ending the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 15-year hold over the civic body. As per the results statistics from State Election Commission the AAP has won 134 seats, which is higher than the expected majority mark.
The ruling BJP has won 104 seats. While the Congress secured only 9 seats. Three Independent candidates, including Shakeela Begum from Seelampur in northeast Delhi, have also won – 3 seats. AAP also received the maximum vote of 42% while BJP managed to get 39.09% vote share.
The counting of votes began at 8 am on Wednesday.
Although the early trends showed BJP ahead of Aap by a significant margin, but later as the counting progressed the Aap clearly crossed the majority mark.
The elated Aap after clinching the Delhi civic body polls today vowed to improve civic amenities in the capital. After the win Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that I want the cooperation of the BJP & Congress to work for Delhi now. I appeal to the Centre &ask for PM’s blessings to make Delhi better. We have to make MCD corruption-free. Today, the people of Delhi have given a message to the entire nation.
Earlier in the 2017 civic polls in Delhi, the BJP had clinched 181 of the then 270 municipal wards while AAP had won only 48 and the Congress finished third with 30.
