Lok Sabha passes Women’s Reservation Bill
New Delhi: After a two-day long debate in the Lok Sabha, the Women’s Reservation Bill was approved. This bill was passed with two-thirds majority. Now this bill will be presented in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Then it will go to the President for approval. This will become law after getting the approval of the President.
In the Lok Sabha, 454 votes were cast in favor of the bill, while 2 votes were cast against it. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and his own party’s MP Imtiaz Jaleel voted against the bill.
On the first day, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal had introduced a bill related to women’s reservation.
In this bill, a provision has been made to give 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies. The bill introduced for women’s reservation is the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
The Nari-Shakti Vandan Act, which gives 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, got the support of most of the parties in the Lok Sabha. In the discussion held on the first day in the House, opposition parties demanded provision of reservation for OBC women in the bill and implementation of the law without limitation.
