New Delhi : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister YS Sharmila joined Congress on Thursday. She took membership of the party in the presence of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi.
It gives me immense joy that the YSR Telangana Party is going to be a part of the Indian National Congress from today onwards.The Congress is still the largest secular party in our country and it has always upheld the true culture of India and built the foundation of our nation, Sharmila said after joining the party at AICC Delhi.
Sharmila is the daughter of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, and younger sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy. According to media reports, after the merger of YSRTP with Congress, Sharmila may be given a post in the party at the national level.
In the recently concluded Telangana Assembly polls, Sharmila supported Congress party. She called for ending the alleged corrupt and anti-people rule of BRS led by Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR). BRS faced defeat in the assembly elections and Congress formed the government for the first time in Telangana under the leadership of Revanth Reddy.
