News Desk : BJP to do in-depth analysis of reasons for electoral defeat, said Karnataka’s former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday. Reacting to karnataka election results he said that the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to conduct a detailed analysis of the overall election results and constituency-wise results to find out the reasons for the party’s defeat in the assembly polls.

In the May 10 election to Karnataka 224-member assembly, the Congress won 135 seats, while the ruling BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular), led by former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, won 66 and 19 seats, respectively.

Bommai said, we have had an informal discussion about the results and getting inputs from different sectors.  We have decided to do a detailed analysis of the overall results and also a constituency-wise analysis.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, he said that despite BJP’s vote share remaining the same, the seats have decreased.  He said that constituency-wise vote percentage analysis can explain the reason for this.  It has also been decided to call a meeting of all elected members, followed by a meeting of all candidates to discuss in detail how to organize and strengthen the party in the coming days, he said.

When asked about the Congress terming the Karnataka election results as Modi’s defeat, Bommai said, “It cannot be Modi’s defeat.” Modi belongs to the whole country, not just Karnataka. He had come here for election campaign. The Congress may have won in Karnataka, but it has faced defeat across the country. It is a victory of local leaders or state leaders.
