Big decision from BCCI, retires jersey number 7 in Dhoni’s honour
BCCI has decided to honor the rich legacy of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni by retiring the jersey number 7 worn by him. Before this, Sachin Tendulkar was the only cricketer to receive such an honour. In 2017, the number 10 jersey was also retired to honor his brilliant career and contribution to the game.
According to the recent media report, the new players coming and those who are playing now have been told not to wear jersey number 7, because Mahendra Singh Dhoni used to wear it. BCCI has taken this decision in view of MS Dhoni’s contribution to cricket. ICC generally gives freedom to choose any number between 1 to 100, but in India numbers 7 and 10 are retired.
MS Dhoni is the most successful captain of India. Apart from this, he is the only captain in the world who has won all three major ICC tournaments, T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy. Not only in India, but in world cricket Mahendra singh Dhoni is hailed as one of the greatest cricketer. Dhoni has played a total of 538 matches in his career. Which includes 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20 matches. During this period, he has scored 4876 runs in Tests at an average of 38.09, 10,773 runs in ODIs at an average of 50.57, and 1617 runs in T-20s at an average of 37.60. Apart from this, as a wicketkeeper, he has 256 catches and 38 stump outs in Test matches, 321 catches and 123 stump outs in ODIs and he has taken 57 catches and 34 stump outs in T20.
