Ajit Agarkar appointed as chief selector of Indian men’s cricket team
The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Tuesday that former fast bowler Ajit Agarkar has been appointed as the new Chief Selector. The three members of the Cricket Advisory Committee have unanimously approved the name of Ajit Agarkar. The BCCI informed about Agarkar becoming the chairman of the selection committee through social media.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape, interviewed applicants for the position of one selector in the Men’s Selection Committee. The three-member CAC has unanimously recommended Mr Ajit Agarkar for the said position.

Ajit was leading in the race for this post. For many days there was speculation about him becoming the chief selector. He has replaced former cricketer Chetan Sharma.The post of Chief Selector of Team India was lying vacant for the last 5 months. After Chetan Sharma, Shiv Sunder Das was made the interim selector in his place.
Talking about Ajit Agarkar’s cricket career, he played a total of 26 Test matches, scored 571 runs and taken 58 wickets. Playing a total of 191 matches in ODIs, he scored 1261 runs and 288 wickets and in T20, playing only 4 matches, he got 15 runs and 3 wickets. Ajit had scored the fastest half-century in 21 balls in ODIs against Zimbabwe in the year 2000. He also became the fastest to 50 ODI wickets in 23 matches.
