Hope voice of the opposition will not be suppressed : Akhilesh Yadav to Loksabha Speaker
Om Birla was elected the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha today. This is Om Birla’s second consecutive term. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other members of the House also congratulated him. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said that he hoped that actions like suspension of MPs would not be taken in the 18th Lok Sabha.
Akhilesh Yadav, while addressing Speaker Om Birla, said that the post on which you are sitting, has very glorious traditions attached to it and we all believe that the House will move forward without any discrimination. As the Speaker of Lok Sabha, you will give equal opportunity and respect to every party and MP.’You should also have control over the ruling party…’
The Samajwadi Party chief further said, “Impartiality is a great responsibility of this great post, you are sitting like the Chief Justice of democratic justice. We all expect from you that the voice of any public representative should not be suppressed and neither should the dignity of the House be hurt by repeating actions like expulsion.”

He further told Om Birla that you have control over the opposition but you should also have control over the ruling party. The House should run on your instructions, it should not happen the other way round.
Akhilesh Yadav in his congratulatory to the speaker, further added that the chair of the House from which I have come is very high. I thought that the Speaker’s chair would be high here in the House, whom should I ask to make the chair of the House higher. I am looking behind your back at this new House, the stones have been placed correctly but I can still see some cement in some cracks. Speaker Sir, I hope that as much respect you give to the ruling party, you will respect the opposition as much and give us an opportunity to present our views.
