Sports : Rohan Bopanna and partner Matthew Ebden fulfilled a lifelong dream of theirs by defeating Simone Bolleli and Andrea Vavasorri of Italy in straight sets to win the Australian Open Men’s Doubles title.
After an intense match that lasted one hour and forty-nine minutes, the Indo-Australian duo defeated the Italians in two sets of 7-6, 7-5.
Bopanna also made history by becoming just the third Indian to win a Grand Slam in men’s doubles. Bopanna and Ebden prevailed in an intense one-hour and forty-nine-minute match of tennis.
This is Bopanna’s second Grand Slam victory; in 2017, he and Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada won the mixed doubles French Open.
Bopanna also made history at 43 years old by winning the men’s tennis Grand Slam. He broke the record held by Jean-Julien Rojer, who, in 2022, alongside Marcelo Arevola, had won the French Open men’s doubles championship. Rojer was forty years old.
