BSF gets new chief : Know about IPS Nitin Agarwal

New Delhi : Senior Indian Police Service officer IPS Nitin Agarwal took charge as the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday. In the year 2015, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Agarwal, a 1989 batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre, has held various key positions in the state police as well as Deputy Inspector General in Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Inspector General in Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Prior to his appointment to the role of Director General of BSF, Agarwal served as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Central Zone and ADG Operations in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). While serving in ITBP, he was promoted to the rank of ADG in 2014.

Education and Achievements of IPS Nitin Agarwal

Agarwal holds B.Tech and M.Tech degrees from IIT Delhi as well as M.Phil in Social Sciences from Panjab University. Recognizing Agarwal’s outstanding contribution in the field of law enforcement, the Central Government awarded him the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2007 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2015.
